Valley Fir and Redwood Company has been a trusted provider of high-quality lumber and wood products since its inception in 1954. Founded by George Wilder Mitchell, Sr., the company quickly established itself in the Columbus, Georgia area due to the rising demand for superior lumber. The business was initially relocated from Hurtsboro, Alabama to Columbus to better serve the growing customer base.
Over the decades, Valley Fir has remained a family-run operation. George W. Mitchell Jr. took on the role of President, and later, his son George W. Mitchell III (Tripp) joined the team as General Manager. This generational commitment ensures that the company continues to uphold the values of quality and exceptional customer service that have been its hallmark.
In 2003, the company expanded its capabilities by opening a full-line millwork shop, equipped with advanced woodworking machinery to meet a wide range of needs, from custom moulding to specialty shutters. Valley Fir stocks a diverse selection of lumber types, including Redwood, Western Red Cedar, Cypress, Douglas Fir, and many others, catering to both retail and wholesale customers.
Beyond traditional lumber offerings, Valley Fir specializes in custom moulding, large timbers and beams, windows, and doors for both residential and commercial applications. They pride themselves on being the only locally owned building supply store in the area, providing not just products, but also knowledgeable assistance with a focus on fulfilling unique customer needs.
With a rich history of over 60 years, Valley Fir has built a reputation for quality and customer care, ensuring that clients can find both hard-to-find products and everyday essentials, all while continuing a legacy of excellence in the lumber industry.
