Franklin Art Glass Studios, Inc., located in Columbus, Ohio, has specialized in stained glass design and production since its founding in 1924. Originally established by Wilhelm Kielblock, Wilhelm Kielmeier, and Henry 'Elmore' Helf, the company emerged during the challenging economic times of the Great Depression. Much of its early success was attributed to William Kielblock's design expertise and Helf's business acumen. By adapting to the market's needs and maintaining artistic integrity, the studio managed to survive economic downturns and flourish in the processed art glass industry.
Throughout the decades, Franklin Art Glass became synonymous with quality craftsmanship, notably through a partnership with Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers in the 1940s. The studio designed and produced stained glass lampshades that were featured in Wendy’s first restaurants and led to a production boom in the 1960s and 70s, employing upwards of 40 workers at times. Their commitment to excellence is recognized by their lasting membership in the Stained Glass Association of America, further showcasing their influence and credibility within the industry.
As a family-owned business, now in its fourth generation, Franklin Art Glass has expanded its services to include stained glass classes and a wide range of supplies, catering to both hobbyists and professionals. Their 23,000-square-foot facility in Columbus’s historic German Village is equipped for custom work, repairs, and restoration, affirming the studio's dedication to preserving and enhancing the art of stained glass. Franklin Art Glass Studios continues to thrive, combining artisanal craftsmanship with customer satisfaction and embracing modern technologies to connect with a broader audience.
